ZA 3505 configuration
Edit the configuration of the ZA 3505
Quick overview
The ZA 3505 is a battery powered zone anchor that will periodically scan nearby BLE tags. The ZA 3505 is intended to be installed on a fixed location - not attached to an moving asset - hence it is called an infrastructure device. Whenever BLE tags are scanned by the zone anchor, the location of these BLE tags will then be set equal to the zone anchor's configured location - hence it is critical that the location is correctly configured in the platform (See: set the location ) for the solution to function properly.
The ZA 3505 is remotely configurable using tracker profiles in the platform that are periodically (once per 24 hour) synchronized to the device. The following parameters are typically configured:
- Scanning interval: The interval at which a BLE scan is performed an uploaded to the platform. The shortest interval is to scan once every 30 minutes. While shorter intervals are theoretically possible, it would lead to a very shortened battery life and an over-consumption of the communication subscription data volume.
- UUID filter: The UUID filter must be configured. This ensures that only the relevant BLE tags are reported to the platform. Only BLE tags whose UUID does not match this value, are ignored. By default, the Sensolus-specific UUID is used. In specific cases, another customer-specific UUID may be configured.
- Geobeacon functionality: Optionally, the ZA 3505 can also act as a BLE geobeacon. This means that other trackers can use the periodically emitted signal to perform indoor localization using geobeacons.
- RSSI threshold: An RSSI threshold filter may be applied, to discard BLE tag observations with weak signal strength. This will effectively reduce the range in which BLE tags will be scanned. Note that many factors can influence the effective RSSI strength at which the BLE signals arrive at the zone anchor, so careful testing and validation is needed when changing this parameter.
Viewing and configuring in the portal
Use the 6-character serial number of the ZA 3505 to look up the device in the portal, similar to other devices. Every ZA 3505 device of your organization can be found in the infrastructure list. Refer to the infrastructure list documentation to learn the meaning of the infrastructure status field and other general infrastructure concepts.
For every zone anchor that is deployed, the installation location must be correctly configured. Otherwise, the locations of the scanned BLE tags will not match the real physical location.
It is also important to set the name of the zone anchor to a meaningful unique name - this helps in better understanding the functioning of the integrated solution.
