Process introduction
What is a process? What value does the process functionality provide?
What is a process
Assets often have to follow a predefined path. A simple example will clarify this. Let's take the case of a waste management company which has one big disposal site (Home) and a set of customers. If we look at assets they typically travel from the home location to the customer and back. When they are not in the home location or at the customer they can be considered in transit.

Assets are first at the home base, then they travel to an end customer. When the container is full it will travel from the customer back to the home base. At first sight there is a big similarity with geozones as the home base and the customer would also be geozones in the platform. However the inbound and outbound segments are not matching with geozones, so it is not the same
What the process engine allows you to do is to model the business process and describe the rules which make an asset go from one state in another. Then that process definition is linked to a set of devices.
Once that setup is done the platform will provide insights of the current process state both at the individual tracker level and overall. It will also allow to set rules on those process steps, for example being too long in a certain process step.
