Location technologies for trackers
To optimize the battery lifetime, Sensolus connected trackers are not capturing locations continuously. Several localization strategies are explained in this chapter.
Battery powered trackers do not track location in the continuous way, as you may be used to in your car navigation system or in your mobile phone applications. Battery powered trackers use a localization strategy that reduces the energy spent on the actual localization and subsequently sending the acquired locations to the cloud infrastructure.
How and when are locations captured
In most use cases, it is sufficient to know the location of your assets while they are not moving (when they are in storage, or on an intermediate location while on the move). Generally speaking, the asset also starts moving at the same location as where it stopped before. Therefore, to reduce power consumption, only relevant location points are captured for the specific use case. Example: Start, stop, OTM, ...).
When an how locations are captured, is defined in the tracker profile:
- The localization trigger defines when a location is captured. It is possible to choose between the different localization triggers.
- How a location is captured is defined by the selected localization technology. Often, a combination (prioritization) of multiple localization technologies (GPS, Wi-Fi, BLE, Network) can be configured.
Trackers profiles can also be customized if the defaults do not fit the use case.
