Turn by turn triggers

Use of distance, speed or heading towards changes to initiate a sequence of actions, such as location capture. Known under the name of turn-by-turn algorithm.

The turn-by-turn trigger is used for vehicle trackers using GPS technology where it is possible to get more location updates while traveling because there is an external power supply available. As this is only useful for vehicle trackers, this algorithm is used on the TRACK 1210 device.

The tracker with this trigger enters the motion state just like the periodic configuration. The difference is when the tracker is in motion. While moving the tracker compares a new point to the previous point to determine whether a location point should be sent. This means the tracker sends more locations while making turns and fewer location updates if driving fast and straight (and larger distance driven).

The criteria used to define if a new GPS location should be captured are:

  1. Distance to the previous location
  2. Heading difference from the previous location heading
  3. Speed threshold
